New Chinese School opens its doors in Wellesley

A church basement filled with squirming children on a weekend morning usually means bible stories and hymns, but on Sunday, September 12 the Wellesley Congregational Village Church played host instead to the beginning of a language-learning journey. Taiwanese puppetry showcased at the Newton Free Library

Taiwanese glove puppetry, a popular performance art, is now on display in the atrium of the New Free Library till September 30.  Provided by the Culture Center of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO), the exhibit features eight series of Taiwanese folklore tales and temple fair tradition. Calligraphy aficionados, young and old, gathered at the Chinese American Fine Art Society (CAFAS) on a Saturday afternoon to share best practices and techniques.  In the first collaborative event of this kind between CAFAS and the American Chinese Art Society (ACAS), novice and expert calligraphers were invited to practice their skills.
