Asian Women for Health (AWFH), a community-based network for the wellbeing of Asian women, will be hosting its 9th annual CelebrAsians Survivor Fashion Benefit on Saturday, November 13 from 6 – 7:30 PM. The benefit, titled “From Resilience to Radiance,” after AWFH’s podcast, will be held virtually for the second year in a row. Featured garments will include shoes and sportswear from ASICS, with all funds from the event going toward breast and cervical cancer support and programs, as well as community education and outreach regarding women’s health. The models themselves include actual cancer survivors, with the whole affair in place to uplift those who have faced medical hardships and trauma.
In 2020, AWFH managed to bring in over $25,000 thanks to various community sponsors such as Tufts University, South Cove Community Health Center, The Tokyo Biochemical Research Foundation (CHAAO) and more. They have continuously brought in funding through CelebrAsians, as it is their cornerstone event of the year. The organization has been active since 2012.
The featured brand, ASICS, is a Japanese sportswear brand that has been ranked among the top products for footwear. The name is an acronym, standing for the Latin phrase “anima sana in corpore sano” which translates to “sound mind in a sound body”. ASICS was the featured brand in 2020’s benefit as well. Past garments have come from companies such as Philip Sawyer Designs.
