Nine Asian American students receive awards for mental health awareness
Nine Asian American high school students from Malden received awards for their “Photovoice” projects on mental health during the Strides Against Stigma event on April 27 at Boston University’s Nickerson Field.
The project originated from the Chinese Culture Connection in Malden, and was supported by the Institute for Community Health and the Asian American Civic Association.

Social Security and Medicare tax holiday ends
2013 averted the “fiscal cliff” on Jan. 2, continuing many tax relief programs for workers and college students. However, the payroll tax holiday for Social Security and Medicare was not extended, bringing 2013 tax rates back up to 2010 levels of 6.2 percent from 4.2 percent.
Adult education program helps graduate succeed
When Danfeng “Annie” Chen came to America, she had no family and no English skills.
She enrolled in basic English classes, but felt stuck in terms of improvement. That changed when she signed up for the Next Steps Transitional English Program in 2009 at the Asian American Civic Association.
