Library opening ceremony
Join the Chinatown community for a ceremony celebrating the opening of the Chinatown Storefront Library on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 4:00-6:00 p.m. Program includes lion dance performance, brief remarks, and open house.

Chinatowns Trust Fund seeks new proposals
The Chinatown Trust Fund Committee will release a Request for Proposals on October 9, 2009, for consideration at the November 20, 2009 meeting.
For funding guidelines, and information regarding the application process, please send an email request to chinatowntrust@gmail.com.
Funding is limited to one grant in a 12-month period. Final reports can be submitted with incoming applications from 2008 grantees. 2009 grantees are not eligible to apply.
The deadline is 5 pm on November 6, 2009. Please submit one original and one copy, to:

Chinese-speaking gamblers’ self-help group
The next Chinese gamblers' self-help meeting will take place at the basement of St. James Church (125 Harrison Ave., Boston) on Monday, 10/5 from 12-1pm. We will facilitate discussion and pass out information and resources that are helpful for people struggling with gambling problems. The Boston Board of Election Commissioners reminds prospective new voters, and current voters who have moved, that the last day to register or to change your voting address for the November 3rd Municipal Election is Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Polls in Boston open at 7AM and close at 8PM.
Boston voters will be going to the polls on November 3 to elect a Mayor, four (4) City Councillors At Large, and nine (9) District City Councillors. The office of Mayor is a four-year term, and City Councillors are elected for two-year terms.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, will host a FREE Open House on Monday, October 12 (Columbus Day) from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Highlights include:
• Ballet, contemporary, and hip-hop dance performances by a variety of artists associated with La Hora del Café, a presentation of St. Andrew’s Coffee House/Community Center in Jamaica Plain
• Musical performances, including acoustic bachata, salsa, nueva trova, and jibaro (Puerto Rican folk) music from “La Hora del Café”
• Silent films accompanied by Latin jazz from Berklee College of Music performers
• Family art activities, including sketching, working with clay, and creating a patchwork “quilt” of artwork
• Exhibitions include “Contemporary Outlook: Seeing Songs,” “A New and Native Beauty: The Art and Craft of Greene and Greene,” and “Tibet/China Confluences,” to name a few.
The event is one of nine free days taking place in 2009 through the MFA’s “9 in ’09” community initiative. The Fall Open House is made possible in part by a grant from the Boston Foundation. (Remaining free days in 2009 include November 11, Veterans Day, and December 31, New Year’s Eve Day.)
