The historic Skating Club of Boston has produced many world-class figure skaters, including World and Olympic champions Dick Button and Tenley Albright. Under the hanging banners covered with names of past club champions, and surrounded by blue spectator benches is the club’s nearly 100 year old rink. The same rink that two-time Olympic and five-time World champion Michelle Kwan, during her time at Tufts University, could often be seen skating at. If you haven’t figured by now, this club oozes history and prestige.
Hop into the club any day of the week and the rink will be occupied by tens of skaters, all practicing their programs or new tricks for upcoming competitions. Hop into the club any day of the week and you’ll realize that, as many of the girls are falling in their attempts to add new tricks to their repertoire, one girl in the background is skating gracefully, forwards and backwards, through all the traffic.
