Tufts Medical Center celebrated the Lunar New Year Festival on Feb. 13 with local schoolchildren at its atrium.
Tufts Medical Center President and CEO Michael Wagner said, “This is my fifth year as CEO and it’s a pleasure to see children fill the atrium. Tufts Medical Center has a long tradition of welcoming the diverse cultures of our patients.”
Sen. Joe Boncore thanked Dr. Wagner for his service. “To you and your friends, have a happy and prosperous New Year,” Boncore said.
Students from the Josiah Quincy Elementary School performed traditional Chinese dances, sang “Jasmine” in Mandarin and did kung fu. The Mancini Orchestra played two songs.
The Boston Chinese Freemasons performed the lion dance. A kung fu and broadsword demonstration was given by Master Alex Woo from Calvin Chin Martial Arts, who also works at Tufts MC as a security officer. Crafts and Chinese calligraphy were demonstrated by Shao Ying Wu and Bingrun Liang.
The event hosts were Sherry Dong and Fong Cheong.
