CNC discusses new housing project

The Chinatown/South Cove Neighborhood Council (CNC) had its monthly meeting Feb. 21 at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. During the meeting, the CNC heard a presentation on a proposed residential unit on 47 LaGrange Street.

GFI Partners is working on the proposed project. The project will be 21 stories and 240 feet high. There will be 130 to 150 units of rented apartments and condos. According to Scott Nelson of GFI Partners, 13 percent of the building will be affordable housing units.

The space will be taking place of a parking garage that is underutilized.

“It doesn’t have a good reputation during the day and it’s even worst at night,” Nelson said. “We hope the project will help deter that behavior away.”

GFI Partners is hoping to get the project approved this year and start construction next year in the spring.
