The Genesis Chamber Singers will present “China in Song” at First Parish Unitarian Church. For more information, visit www.genesischambersingers.com.
Genesis Chamber Singers, the South Shore’s exclusive professional chamber choir, presents ‘China in Song’, its second concert series of the season. Led by founder and artistic director Joseph Young, who is also choral director in the Hingham Public Schools, ‘China in Song’ features a program of choral music sung entirely in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Taiwanese. The concert series builds on the success of a similar concert series from March 2016; however, while the first program featured only Chinese folk songs, this concert repertoire expands to include other choral works by Chinese composers. Like the 2016 concerts, these performances will present a world premiere choral work composed specifically for the ensemble and program. The new work, entitled “Redbirds, Late Spring” written by Jerry Hui, combines an English poem by Sara Teasdale with an ancient Chinese poem by Li Qingzhao (1084-1155). Tickets for the concerts are available online at www.genesischambersingers.com and at the door.
