Lotus Xpress in Somerville is a hidden gem, well worth a visit to get delicious sushi and Chinese food.

The restaurant is located in the heart of East Somerville and easily accessible off the Orange line Sullivan Square stop. There are so many restaurants in the area it would be easy to overlook this one, but that would be a mistake.

The prices are reasonable and affordable. Sushi can often be overpriced, so it’s a relief to find a place where it’s not an arm and leg.

Lotus Xpress is designed to be a takeout place. However, there is limited seating inside the restaurant in case a customer wants to sit down and enjoy the food.

The staff is friendly and always willing to give suggestions. The Orange Sesame Chicken is one of the most popular dishes. This comes as no surprise — the chicken is tender and has a bit of spice to it. Every bite has the right amount of kick, leaving you drooling for more.

The Snow Mountain Maki is a shrimp tempura roll topped with shredded crabmeat and Japanese mayo. It is a delicious combination of crabmeat and mayo.

The Philly Maki was my favorite. The mixture of salmon and cream cheese is pleasing to the taste buds. You can find a Philly Maki at most sushi restaurants, but you will not find one in the Boston area as satisfying as this one.
