Public Art Installation on Families and Immigration at Fields Corner in September

img_4798In collaboration with architects, students, 5 weavers, and a total of 12 production volunteers,The Tilt-Down Fence, a public arts project dealing with the topic of immigration, is coming to Fields Corner, Dorchester on Saturday, Sept. 3 until Sept. 24!

BR+A+CE is the creator of The Big Hammock, The Mattapan Mobile Farm Stand, and now The Tilt-Down Fence.

img_4780The Tilt-Down Fence is a public art installation of five series of ladders that transform into picnic tables and activate an underused green space in Fields Corner, Dorchester to bring communities together. The Fence is a metaphor [the economic ladder] that has a purpose – a climbing structure and a framework for adults to gather, support and network towards upward mobility.

img_4766This is BR+A+CE’s fourth public art project. The goal of Tilt-Down Fence is to create new conversations about cultural exchange, immigrant communities, and their contributions. The MBTA has provided us with permission to site Tilt-Down Fence by the Fields Corner T Stop on 494-496 Geneva Avenue. The public art installation partners with local organizations such as: Viet-AID (Vietnamese American Initiative for Development), VACA,(Vietnamese American Civic Association) ABCD (Action for Boston Community Development), Chill On Park, Thang Long, The Puppeteer’s Cooperative, and The Immigrant Advancement Office to bring various programs and events to the community through the lively art platform of The Tilt-Down Fence.

Events include: information sessions held by local organizations, question and answer resources from the Immigration Advancement Office, free ice cream on Opening Day, a Potluck hosted by Vietnamese Organization Thang Long, puppet shows, children’s story-reading, and much more! All events and resource sessions are free to the public, and will happen every Saturday in September. Please see the flyer attached below for a more detailed description of the events.

Please share the news and come join us at the grand opening at 10AM for The Tilt-Down Fence on Saturday, September 3rd at Field’s Corner in Dorchester!

BR+A+CE: Building Research + Architecture + Community Exchange is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization bringing public art to the community. Tilt-Down Fence could not have reached Dorchester without the support through various grants and donations. The Tilt-Down Fence was granted a total of $11,000 through The Awesome Foundation, The Boston Society of Architects, The Boston Foundation, and Viet AID, and we have currently raised 30% of the $6,660 fundraising campaign we started on Indiegogo. We are still looking for donations to help with our efforts. If you haven’t already, please visit our Indiegogo site and support awesome public art!
