Lunar New Year flower market kicks off in Chinatown

By Ling-Mei Wong

The Chinese New Year flower market kicked off with an opening ceremony by the Wong’s Family Association Lion Dance Troupe on Jan. 26 at the Chinatown Park. The market ran from Jan. 27 to 30 at the park from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Chinatown Main Street has organized a flower market for four years. Traditionally, flower markets are outdoor events with vendors selling flowers and wares for the whole family before the lunar new year. The beginning of the Year of the Horse falls on Jan. 31.

This year was the first time the market took place in a tent, sponsored by Mohegan Sun Casino.
