MPO Proposes Amendment to Transportation Program; Public Review Period Open until April 9

The Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has released for public review draft Amendment Four of the federal fiscal years (FFYs) 2013–16 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for a 30-day public review period. The MPO is responsible for programming federal transportation dollars in the Boston region. The TIP specifies the highway and transit projects to be implemented in the region over the next several years and the funding amounts programmed for those projects.
This amendment would program Statewide Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program funding for the purchase of 10 new locomotives for MBTA commuter rail service and additional funding for reconstruction on Trapelo Road and Belmont Street in Belmont and Watertown. Details are available in the draft document, which is available on the MPO’s website, www.bostonmpo.org. The public review period for the draft document began on Monday, March 11, 2013, and will end at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. The MPO is planning to take action on the amendment at its meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2013. The meeting will begin at 10:00 AM in Conference Rooms 5 and 6 of the State Transportation Building, 10 Park Plaza, in Boston. Members of the public are invited to attend. Written comments will be accepted at the street address and email address above before the close of the public review period, and written and spoken comments will be accepted at the meeting.
The MPO meeting locations are accessible to people with disabilities and via public transportation. Upon request in advance of the meeting, through any of the means listed above, every effort will be made to prepare materials in other formats and in languages other than English, and to provide interpreters in American Sign Language and other languages.
