Mayor Menino Keeps Sharing the Love

“We Love You, Boston” Campaign Continues with Free Family Fun Day

Sledding, Storytelling, Crafts, Games, 12-3p.m. Sunday at Franklin Park

As his “We Love You, Boston” campaign continues, Mayor Thomas M. Menino today invited all Boston families to a Free Family Fun Day at Franklin Park’s William Devine Golf Course in Dorchester on Sunday, February 17, from 12 to 3 p.m.

“I know Boston parents had a tough weekend with their kids cooped up during the storm,” Mayor Menino said. “We’re hoping for a little more snow so families can get outside for some exercise and fresh air. With or without snow, this event will be a great way to kick off February vacation week.”

The free event will include sledding, a showing of the movie “Happy Feet Two,” storytelling with Rosalita’s Puppets, games from around the world, music, hula hoops, activities from Read Boston, and free hot chocolate. The “City Hall to Go” truck – the first of its kind in the nation – will also be on hand to assist residents with city business, and save them a trip to City Hall.

This event is made possible by the generous support of Dunkin Donuts and L.L.Bean and is being hosted by Mayor Menino, Boston Centers for Youth & Families, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, the Mayor’s Office of Tourism and Special Events, and Read Boston.

Sledding at the event will be weather-permitting and families are invited to bring their own sleds and coasters. For up-to-the-minute information, follow the Parks Department on Twitter, @BostonParksDept, or on Facebook, Boston Parks Department. Free parking is available at the clubhouse parking lot located at 1 Circuit Drive in Dorchester.

Mayor Menino also took the opportunity to invite residents to other free events taking place across the City this weekend:

· 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, February 16: Boston Centers for Youth & Families Youth Job Fair at the Boston Public Library, Copley Square; The event will feature 100+ organizations who will talk to Boston youth about job opportunities, and conduct interviews on-site.

· 11 a.m., Sunday, February 17: Free winter photography workshop; Meet at the boathouse at Jamaica Pond and learn techniques for taking impressive photographs of Boston’s beautiful landscapes. The event is made possible with the support of the Boston Cultural Council and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.
