The Chinese Culture Connection and Malden High School Asian Culture Club celebrated their annual Lunar New Year Festival Feb. 2 at Malden High School.

Malden Mayor Gary Christenson addressed attendees in Cantonese and Mandarin, wishing them a happy new year.

“We added more youth performances this year and made the program shorter,” said Mei Hung, event organizer and director of the CCC. “We partnered with the Asian Culture Club and are proud the students are taking leadership by organizing this event.”

Performances included a lion dance and kung fu demonstration by the Wah Lum Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academy. The Asian Cultural Club had singing and dancing, along with a fashion show. There were also instrumental performances by the Boston Erhu Ensemble and the Chinese Dulcimer and Guzheng Youth Ensemble. The CCC Multi Arts Performance Troupe danced twice and sang in Chinese. Other demonstrations included the Yang Style Tai Chi Association and the New England Kung Fu Dance Association.
