The Asian American Commission had a ceremony on Jan. 24 to welcome six new commissioners.

Jason Chou, executive director of the AAC, presented two awards to Vice Chairperson Geoffrey Why and Chairperson Paul Lee, thanking them for their contributions to the commission.

State Treasurer Steven Grossman said the most important issues to Massachusetts are immigrants and entrepreneurship.

“My goal over the next few years is to work with each one of you, with the Asian American Commission, with our diversity outreach council, with small business owners, with lawyers and business people to maximize the opportunities all over the commonwealth, particularly in our 24 gateway communities,” Grossman said.

Grossman said it was important for the state to help small business owners with gathering capitals through the Massachusetts small business partnership, and he believed AAC to play a huge role in it.

The six new commissioners are Gilbert Ho, WingKay Leung, Joel Buenaventura, Chris Chanyasulkit, Kajal Chattopadhyay and Elisa Choi.
